The landscape in and around Fuglafjørður is extremely beautiful, and it has a lot of variety. There are several easy walking tours available in the mountains along old paths, where ancient cairns still mark the way to the neighbouring village. The Rocking Stones (Rinkusteinar), whose continual movements have been a mystery for hundreds of years are not far away.
In Fuglafjørður the visitor can see how the "treasures of the sea" are being transformed into the finished export product by an advanced technological industry. Fuglafjørður is the town where 3% of the population on the Faroe Islands ship approximately 20% of the Faroese export value from modern and well-functioning harbour facilities.
However, this doesn't mean that Fuglafjørður is a stressful town, although it plays a great part in the total export of the Faroe Islands. On the contrary it is a town, where you can do your shopping, and additionally count on a friendly face and good service in the shops.

In 1984 a new modern church was built replacing the old one from 1871. Not only is the church being used for church ceremonies, but it is also very suitable for concerts, which often take place, as Fuglafjørður is well-known for it's rich music musical life. Information about scheduled concerts can be obtained at the information office. In addition to the religious ceremonies the visitor is welcome to view the church but a prior arrangement has to be made.
Near Fuglafjørður there is a warm spring, which has a temperature of 18C both in the summer and in the winter.
In the mountain landscape west of the town on a beautiful advanced hill there is a place of refuge, "Uppi á hálsi", where the inhabitants of Fuglafjørður tried to hide, when the town was ravaged by pirates in the old days. The remains of a very spartan house can still be found in this place if you decide to go on this beautiful walking tour.
The visitor can get all the information he/she may need at the Tourist Information Office which is open from 9.00 to 17.00 every weekday throughout the tourist season. The Information Centre is in the town's library, where the visitor has extensive access to material about the Faroe Islands in books and brochures.
Visitors may use the toilets and the card telephone in the information building. Telephone cards can be bought at the information office.
